J Cole Interview + Live Performance on allaboutgoodmusic TV

The Live Show
Musical history was made last week when J Cole and Drake both made debut solo live appearances across the UK. We were present at both shows and were blessed to witness the enormous talent that both of these artists possess (read/ watch the highlights from the Drake concert). If I had to sum up  in one word J Cole’s performance at Manchester Club Academy on Wednesday 12th January 2011; it would be ‘EPIC’!!

Club Academy is a small,  intimate venue with perhaps a capacity of no more than 500, and was packed from front to back with Cole supporters. N8 and I have been Cole fans since he first put me onto The Warm Up mixtape back in Summer ’09, but to experience his talent in the flesh was much more than I imagined it would be. He took the audience on a journey through The Warm Up and Friday Night Lights mixtapes including the bangers Lights Please (see video), Dollar and a Dream (see video), Higher, Who Dat,  Blow Up and In The Morning (see video). There was no single song he performed in which the crowd weren’t reciting his lyrics back to him.

Quite possibly the most memorable moment of it all was when out-of-nowhere Drake appeared on stage for his verse on Up All Night, to which the audience went craaaazy!! By that point the vibe was electric and everybody was hyped. Although it was a predominantly male crowd us females were in attendance too; not just as admirers but as fans of his music aswell .

The Interview
After the show we had the absolute pleasure of sitting down with J Cole for a hot minute. A truly humble individual who emanate’s such positive energy and comes across as the kind of person who would gladly sit and talk with you for hours. We spoke on Jay Z, Roc Nation, Jay Electronica, the music scene in his hometown of North Carolina, his forthcoming debut album and more!!
