Benin City | Baby (Video & LV Remix)
Benin City have been M.I.A for a minute but they’re back, and by the sounds of this first cut, they’re back with a vengeance. If you’re unfamiliar with this London-based four piece outfit, then make it your business to get to know them! They combine Funk, Soul, Experimental and Future sounds and they do it so damn well.
I didn’t quite know how to verbalise my thoughts on it after listening to Baby for the first time. It’s such a striking and carefully crafted piece of music that takes you on a journey, starting off almost as a whisper and gradually building into a crescendo that ends in a full out band ensemble. Frontman and vocalist Josh Idehen tells the tale of a relationship on the edge, which as illustrated in the video has a somewhat uncomfortable and sinister dynamic . Loving this right now.
The single is released on the 30th May via Audio Doughnuts, as is the remix by super producers LV.
