Who is SmallBeats?
“Stephan Small also known as SmallBeats. Is a Music Producer based in South Manchester.
He’s most well known in the underground for his unique sound which is influenced by a fusion of American Rap music, and Pop. In Manchester, recognition has come from the work he’s done with artists, including RIO, Kapital K.O, CROWN and others. In 2010 he was asked to become a part of the collective ICONX Entertainment. Since then Smalls has shown other sides of his creative ability by producing music videos. Story So far was his first video, which also helped fellow ICONX member, and upcoming artist Kapital KO to land a full page feature in the Manchester Evening News.
Although Smalls is focusing more on the video production at present he still has a huge hand in music and plans to return the studio to work on new material.”

What are your main influences?
I would have to say life, everything I see around me and witness. I listen to music everyday all day whether in the car, in the office and in the gym. It’s just normal to me

What do you love and hate most about the city?
I love Manchester because it feels like one of the most significant, vibrant and cultured cities outside of London.
What’s your definition of good music?
Music that touches an emotion or captures your attention from beginning to end.
Music is powerful; an artist has 3-5 minutes to tell a story, make you want to dance, laugh educate etc etc. If I listen to an album and I don’t get that after the first track I find it hard to finish listening to the whole thing.

Which is your favourite club in Manchester?
I dont really have a favourite but Ive always had a good night in Suede and Bijou

If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be, and why?
Kanye West simply because he an amazing Rapper as well as an amazing producer.

What is SmallBeats upto at the moment?
Currently taking a break from production and working on videos. Got about 3 videos I’m working on treatments for and I will start shooting in a few weeks, but its all hush hush hahaha. Watch this space!
